“First of all, Okusa ran well for us in Q1, and my time in Q2 gave us a Combined Time fast enough to give us pole position. Also, the people at Dunlop brought us tires that matched the (rain) conditions well, and along with the fact that I had made a mistake that damaged our car in the last round and the team had to repair it, this all put a lot of pressure on me when I drove. So, I’m just glad that we got pole position.”
Riki Okusa
“When I finished Q1 with the top time, I thought that Izawa-san’s face looked drained (wry laugh) when I got back. As a driver, it makes me glad to see that I can create that kind of pressure, and it made me feel that it had been a good chance for the two of us to grow as a team. However, (having taken pole position under this pressure) made my senior teammate (Izawa) look really cool.”

Kazuto Kotaka
“Today, having to go into the qualifying without a chance to get in any time in the car before the qualifying, I was watching Nakamura’s on-board camera’s video as he was driving in Q1. Concerning the tires, I had wanted to start my time attacks one lap earlier, but there was still an aspect of responsibility that I couldn’t shake. Still, because the tires maintained their grip, I was able to get the best time on my next lap’s attack. Since we have had a succession of disappointing races recently and knowing that this LC500h that we have been using since last season is fast, I’m glad that we got pole position with this result.”
Jin Nakamura
“Even though we got pole position, all I did was to finish barely fast enough in Q1 (13th), so it is all a result of Kotaka-san’s speed. The timing of my attack in Q1 was bad. Still, I’m glad that the time I ran was enough to get us through Q1.”
